Our portfolio company sproof, the Salzburg-based RegTech, has launched EUDI Pioneers. The new consortium brings banks, businesses, universities and trust service providers together to prepare for the European Digital Identity (EUDI) Wallet. Its mission is clear: to treat EUDI as an economic opportunity, not just a regulatory duty.
Why EUDI Pioneers Comes at the Right Time
Under eIDAS 2.0, relying parties must accept the EUDI Wallet from 2027. However, many organisations still face real hurdles. Compliance teams deal with registration duties across 27 member states. In addition, developers must handle a range of new standards such as OpenID4VP, SD-JWT VC and ISO mdoc. Without proven blueprints, single projects quickly become costly and risky.
At the same time, the upside is large. Automated verification of personal data can cut onboarding and KYC costs significantly. Customers can identify themselves and sign without passwords, directly on their smartphone. Moreover, companies can issue their own tamper-proof credentials, such as employee IDs or powers of attorney.
How the EUDI Pioneers Consortium Works
The consortium follows a structured four-phase plan. First, partners start with EUDI deep dives and a legal assessment of their requirements. Next, regular consortium meetings define concrete use cases. In the third phase, members test their flows in the sproof Credible sandbox, sproof’s EUDI wallet middleware. Finally, joint pilots go live and the best practices are presented to market and policymakers before the mandatory rollout.
“We believe that Europe’s digital identity ecosystem will take shape through practical experience, shared knowledge and collaboration,” says Clemens Brunner, CEO and Co-Founder of sproof. “The earlier we work together, the better prepared we will be.”
Strong Partners From Day One
The consortium brings business, science and administration together. sproof runs it jointly with two partners, A-Trust and PwC Austria. In addition, numerous companies and institutions have already joined as members. They include Salzburg AG, Salzburg University of Applied Sciences, Modul University Vienna, Paracelsus Medical University, LearnChamp and Hilfswerk Salzburg.
A-Trust plays a key role as the partner qualified trust service provider. As a result, members can issue qualified electronic attestations directly into the wallet. The consortium also builds on sproof’s strategic alliance with A-Trust, which already anchors ID Austria in digital signature workflows.
Early results are already visible. “Together with sproof, we are one of the first universities in Europe to bring tamper-proof campus IDs directly into the EUDI Wallet,” says Dominik Engel, Rector of FH Salzburg.
The consortium remains open to new members. Organisations can join at different levels, and an information session takes place on 15 October. Interested companies find all details at eudi-pioneers.eu.
Proud to Accompany sproof
We are proud to accompany sproof as it turns Europe’s digital identity framework into practice. Earlier this year, the team showed how to bring the EUDI Wallet vision to life. With EUDI Pioneers, sproof now gathers an entire ecosystem around that vision.
