In a collaboration at the Port of Antwerp, Unmanned Life, in partnership with Liberty Global and Amazon Web Services (AWS), has been shortlisted for the GLOMO Award in the GSMA Innovation Award category. They pioneered a cutting-edge drone-based surveillance system which is powered by 5G connectivity, cloud and edge computing, and AI. Moreover, this innovative project marks a significant milestone in the evolution of security solutions, offering unparalleled capabilities in monitoring and response.
Seamless Communication with 5G Connectivity
At the heart of this collaboration lies the integration of 5G connectivity. In essence, this is enabling seamless communication between drones and ground control systems. Unlike traditional communication links, 5G offers the advantage of non-line-of-sight communication. Subsequently, it is overcoming obstacles and providing high bandwidth for real-time data transfer. This capability is crucial in surveillance operations, where instantaneous transmission of video feeds and telemetry data is paramount.
Optimized Data Analysis with Edge Computing
In the recent tests conducted at the Port of Antwerp, Unmanned Life’s software platform managed two drones. They significantly did this via a slice of Telenet’s public 5G network and AWS Snowball Edge infrastructure. Furthermore, the drones, equipped with compact cellular modems, were able to relay live high-quality video streams over long distances, facilitated by the robust 5G connectivity.
Enhanced Security Measures through AI Integration
The integration of AWS Snowball Edge compute further optimized the system. It particularly enables real-time data analysis without the need for extensive onboard computing power. This not only conserves battery life but also ensures low latency in processing critical analytics. As a result, the surveillance system can swiftly identify and respond to unauthorized entries, enhancing security measures at the Port of Antwerp.
Empowering Decision-Makers with Real-Time Monitoring
Central to the success of this project is the utilization of AI for person recognition. It is allowing the system to automatically detect and alert authorities to potential security breaches. The seamless integration of AI algorithms with the drone orchestration platform underscores the effectiveness of leveraging advanced technologies for enhanced situational awareness.
Through the Unmanned Life web interface, project stakeholders can monitor missions in real-time. They are accessing live telemetry data and alerts generated by the drones. This transparency and accessibility empower decision-makers with actionable insights, facilitating proactive responses to security threats.
Driving Innovation in Security Technology
The collaboration between Unmanned Life, Liberty Global, and AWS exemplifies the synergy between cutting-edge technologies and industry expertise. By harnessing the power of 5G connectivity and edge computing, the project sets a new standard for surveillance solutions, offering unparalleled efficiency, reliability, and scalability.
We celebrate this milestone achievement and look forward to further advancements that will shape the future of security technology. Furthermore, we are proud to have Unmanned Life as part of our portfolio, driving forward advancements that set industry standards. Together, we are driving innovation and creating solutions that redefine possibilities in the digital age.
