The last months of 2018 have been very busy for ESAC. We have travelled around Europe meeting great professionals from the digital health sector and we screen hundreds of great companies. Last November 26th, it was the big final, where we named the best European digital health startup of the year.
Now we would like to introduce you to the founders behind our newest investment opportunities. We’re going to post a series of mini articles talking about the founders of the startups so you can know them a little better!
Let´s start with myBioma, the Austrian startup winner of the national prize and its founders Barbara Sladek, PhD, MBA and Dr. Nikolaus Gasche.
Before starting her own business, Barbara pursued a corporate career, starting as Project Manager for Siemens Healthineers and was quickly promoted to International Business Manager for multiple countries. Moreover, she has an admirable background: Barbara obtained a PhD in biochemistry at Oxford University, completed a MBA at WU Executive Academy in Vienna, and at the University of Vienna a Master in Molecular Biology and a Bachelor of Science in Genetics. She met her co-founder Nikolaus Gasche while traveling through Ghana. Nikolaus completed his medical studies at the Medical University of Graz under minimum study time. He is the technical wiz behind myBioma who taught himself programming at the age of 10. As a medical student, he founded two companies and one NPO. His last company with a focus on IT security and ERP systems was successfully sold in 2016.
Together they started myBioma project almost one year ago. As founders of myBioma Barbara and Nikolaus are now able to combine their passions. For Barbara it is the combination of science and economics and for Nikolaus it the one of medicine and technology.
